Seth Carbonari officially joined the FAC in 2011 as an avalanche specialist, but has been assisting with observations, advisories and education since 2002. He has attended AAA Level 1 and 2 courses as well as the CAA Operations Level 1 and various workshops. He has a strong interest in educating backcountry users and has been an instructor in various AAA Level 1/2 courses and other avalanche training. Additional background includes working as the Snow Ranger at the Blacktail Mountain Ski Area in 2004 and collecting snow survey measurements in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. When not working at FAC, Seth is the Fire Management Officer for the Spotted Bear Ranger District on the Flathead National Forest. The similarities between wildland fire and avalanches fascinate him, especially pertaining to decision making/situational awareness, spatial variability and the influence of weather. He received a BA in Political Science from the University of Montana in 1996 and has extensive training in fire management, fire ecology and leadership. He considers himself extremely lucky to be able to live in the Flathead Valley where he grew up skiing and playing in the outdoors.
