Joy Sather

Joy Sather officially joined the Flathead Avalanche Center in 2011, but has been assisting with the program since 2010. Her background includes volunteering for other avalanche centers, ski patrolling, teaching avalanche courses, as well as collecting snow course data.   She has completed level 1 and 2 AAA courses as well as a CAA operations level 1, and has attended continuing education workshops/trainings all across the west. She went to school at Prescott College where she studied Avalanche Forecasting in Silverton, CO and graduated with a Wilderness Leadership Bachelor’s degree in 2004.  When she is not out in the snow with FAC, Joy is the Trails Coordinator for the Swan Lake District, will be acting as Snow Ranger for Blacktail Ski Area, and she also teaches for The Wilderness Medicine Institute of NOLS.
